When I learned that Daryl Hall & Elvis Costello would make a tour stop in Las Vegas, I knew I had to go. One thing I love about living in Vegas is the ease of seeing shows like this. Everybody plays Vegas. But before buying a ticket to see the show in a casino showroom, I checked the tour website. The show was playing LA’s Greek Theater before coming up the I-15 to Vegas. Oh, hell yes! I’ve never been to the Greek Theater. I can drive to LA and catch the show there. So I did.
I’ve seen several performers from my younger days make a come back, and cash in on the nostalgia craze. Englebert. Neil Sedaka. Air Supply. Barry Manilow. Jackson Browne. So I was excited to see these two iconic performers together. Would they team up on stage to recreate their one and only collaborative effort, The Only Flame in Town? I hoped they would.
I read reviews of prior dates. There was a lot of praise for the musicians and appreciation for their contributions to the soundtrack of our youth. Nothing to warn me of the horror that awaited me in Los Angeles. This was a major disappointment. Both of these guys should be ashamed of taking people’s money. Just give a listen. These clips were recorded by me on my phone and they have not been doctored.
